Priority Projects
TAU is seeking a visionary donor to name its School of Medicine, Israel’s largest and most influential medical school, known for ground breaking biomedical research and training 20% of the country’s physicians. This historic opportunity will expand cutting-edge research, advance medical education, and enhance Israel’s global impact on healthcare.
A new state-of-the-art Biomedical Sciences Building will expand TAU’s achievements in biomedicine and strengthen its multidisciplinary research. This much-needed facility will unite scientists, hospitals, biotech firms, and global partners, providing advanced labs and flexible research space to accelerate the pace of discovery and produce further breakthroughs to help ease suffering and save lives.
TAU aims to establish the School for Environment & Sustainability to tackle urgent climate change challenges. The School’s vision is to elevate, coordinate, and dramatically enhance the research and teaching activities in units across campus, and serve as a dynamic research hub for state-of-the-art, creative and viable solutions that contribute to policymaking and foster sustainability in Israel and globally.
The ongoing war and global rise in antisemitism underscore the need to strengthen Israel as a safe haven for the Jewish people. The Faculty Recruitment Fund will help attract world-class researchers to ensure Israel’s technological and scientific leadership, combat brain drain, and maintain its global competitive edge. To do so, TAU requires attractive recruitment packages for lab renovations, equipment, fellowships, and start-up costs.
To properly nurture and strengthen Israel's future innovators and researchers, TAU's newly expanded Student Success Center requires significant funding to support its broad mandate and growing student needs. Funds will be used to launch a special projects fund, reinforce career development services, expand the Center’s physical space, and establish a permanent endowment to ensure long-term sustainability.

Tel Aviv University made history with the naming of its new Gray Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences, Gray School of Medicine, and Gray School of Medical Sciences. The generous donation from the Gray Foundation – the largest ever to TAU – will significantly increase the number of doctors trained in Israel, improve educational access, and upgrade research facilities and conditions.
At the celebratory ceremony in May 2025, in the presence of President of Israel Isaac Herzog and First Lady Michal Herzog, Gray Foundation co-founders Jon and Mindy Gray said: “We know that there has always been so much promise in this Promised Land, despite – or maybe because of – its greatest challenges. We could think of no better place to start planting a few seeds of promise than the amazing medical faculty here at Tel Aviv University.
In a festive event held in May 2025 on campus, the cornerstone was laid for the new building of the Lowy International School – marking a key step forward for the University’s global mission. The ceremony took place in the presence of Sir Frank Lowy, his family, and senior leaders of the University, who gathered to celebrate the enduring partnership between TAU and one of its most dedicated benefactors.
The new building, made possible by Lowy’s transformative $18 million donation, will serve as headquarters for the Lowy School and provide attractive meeting spaces for students and visitors. More than just a physical space, the building represents the University’s growing commitment to globalization and academic excellence.
A celebration was held in May 2025 inaugurating the Weisfeld Family Charitable Foundation Animal Habitat Initiative, made possible through the generous support of Gilad and Stephanie Abrahami through their family foundation. This visionary project will modernize the I. Meiers Segal Zoological Research Garden – Israel’s largest and most advanced facility of its kind. Originally built in the 1970s, the Research Zoo will replace its outdated cages with six spacious, modern habitats; reintroduce species previously relocated due to space constraints; and reopen its public outreach trail and bird observatory after years of closure. The Initiative also includes an endowment component to support long-term animal care and facility maintenance.
As a leading center for research, conservation, education, and professional training, the Zoo is vital to TAU’s cross-campus vision for its School of Environment. The Weisfeld Initiative will significantly contribute to the University’s environmental research and education, helping ensure its future as a national and international hub for innovation, biodiversity, and ecological awareness.
