TAU OFFICERS

Lay Leaders

Ms. Dafna Meitar-Nechmad

Chairwoman of the Board of Governors

Meitar-Nechmad has championed philanthropic innovation through co-founding the Institute for Law and Philanthropy at TAU, along with promoting gender equity in giving. A former corporate attorney, she co-founded the Zvi and Ofra Meitar Family Fund and, together with her family, established the Zvi Meitar Center for Advanced Legal Studies at TAU. She is a driving force behind major cultural and philanthropic initiatives in Israel and abroad, including her leadership roles with JFN, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Metropolitan Opera.

Mr. Eli Gelman

Chairman of the Executive Council

Gelman is a veteran technology leader who spent over 30 years at Amdocs, including as CEO, where he helped transform it into a global software powerhouse. A Technion-trained engineer and former IDF officer who developed encrypted communication systems still in use today, Gelman also served on the boards of major tech firms like Retalix and devotes significant personal time to advancing youth education.

Dr. Anita Friedman

Chair of the TAU Global Campaign, Vice Chairperson of the Board of Governors

A prominent US community leader and philanthropist, Friedman serves as President of the Koret Foundation and holds key roles with AIPAC, the Shoah Foundation, and Jewish Family and Children’s Services in San Francisco. At TAU, she has spearheaded major projects, including the Koret Foundation TAU-Bay Area Collaborative Initiative in Smart Cities and Bioinformatics, and the Koret Center for Jewish Civilization, a partnership with ANU–Museum of the Jewish People aimed at strengthening Jewish peoplehood and global community ties.

Dr. h.c. Jeremy Coller

Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Governors

The founder of Coller Investment with stakes in over 2,500 companies, Coller is a pioneering figure in private equity. A dedicated philanthropist, he channels his passion for responsible investing into global support for education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability – including a landmark donation to establish the Coller School of Management at TAU. Coller also supports animal rights protection, psychedelics research, and the new Coller-Dolittle Challenge for Interspecies Two-Way Communication at TAU.

Dr. h.c. Josef Buchmann

Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors

A Frankfurt-based Holocaust survivor turned international real estate developer and philanthropist, Buchmann has made transformative contributions to TAU, including founding the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Buchmann Faculty of Law in commemoration of his parents, and Josef Buchmann Doctoral Fellowship Fund. Beyond TAU, he has supported major medical, educational, and cultural initiatives in Israel and Europe, including children’s hospitals, Holocaust memorials, and Jewish welfare programs, earning high honors in Israel, Poland and Germany for his lifelong dedication to Jewish continuity and humanitarian causes.

Dr. h.c. Sylvan Adams

Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors

A Canadian-born businessman, philanthropist, and amateur cycling champion, Adams immigrated to Israel in 2016 and has since dedicated himself to advancing the nation's global standing through initiatives in sports, education, and health. A second generation donor to TAU, his most notable contributions to the University include the establishment of the Sylvan Adams Sports Institute, a state-of-the-art facility designed to nurture elite athletic talent and advance sports science research, as well as the Sylvan Adams Sports Center.

Dr. h.c. Boaz Dotan

Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors

A TAU alumnus, Dotan is one of Israel’s early software pioneers: he co-founded Amdocs in the 1980s and led its evolution into a global tech leader with over 30,000 employees. Following his son’s recovery from leukemia, thanks to a groundbreaking therapy he helped fund, Dotan has become a devoted philanthropist, most notably establishing the Varda and Boaz Dotan Research Center in Hemato-Oncology at TAU along with other major healthcare projects in Israel.

Dr. h.c. Sami Sagol

Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors

One of Israel’s most prominent industrialists, Sagol led Keter Plastics for nearly 60 years, expanding it into a global enterprise and earning numerous accolades, including Man of the Year by Globes in 2016. An avid philanthropist, his contributions to TAU include founding the Sagol School of Neuroscience, Sagol Center for Regenerative Biotechnology, and Sagol Center for Regenerative Medicine – all part of his broader mission to advance brain studies, longevity research, and higher education in Israel.
